Change Of Branch after Ist Year

Yes, You heard it right. You can get your branch changed after end of first year.
VTU allows branch change only after the end of first year.
As soon as the result of 2nd semester is announced, applications are asked by the colleges for the change of branch,
which entirely depends on the avaiable seats for the particular branch in the college.
Normally, very few seats are available which is alloted by the merit list of the marks obtained in first and second semester.
So, you need to be one among the few toppers of the college to be eligible for branch change.
Also Vacancy in a particular branch is caused due to unfilled seats or year backs of your batchmates.
In the top 20 colleges, you will not find any unflled seats, so if someone gets yearback, then only you would have some chance.

Hence, it can be concluded that getting branch changed after first year is difficult.
Make proper choice of your branch and college in the counselling only.

Note: CET students would have to pay COMEDK fees after the branch change.

A few points for the first year students

Location:Bangalore Bangalore, Karnataka, India
This is for all the new entrants to the VTU system based on my experience:

1) Don't don't ignore the internals.
This is the mistake that most of us do. VTU colleges generally have three internal exams. It constitutes about 22% of the marks which will be imprinted on the final marks sheet of the semester examination.
First internals are generally easier compared to the other two. Try scoring in the first two internals and chill in the last.

2) Study regularly
Aah, the same thing that you have been listening for long. But believe me even I never followed it till the last sem. But, now i think that it is time tested advice and really works.

3) Buy used books.
You can easily get used books at the discount from Avenue Road(Bangalore) and can later return it for next sem books. You can easily save a lot.

4) Revaluation
You can apply for revaluation after the results are declared. For that first you have to apply for photocopy.
It will take nearly a thousand rupee per subject. Applying for lab subjects costs around 5000rs.

5) Branch Change
You can go for change in the branch subject to the availability of the seats in the particular branch.
College administration may charge you hefty amount of money if you don't have good marks.

6) Ask Seniors and faculties
Yes, the seniors are willing to guide you unless you approach. Maintain good rapport with the faculties as they have got a lot of power under VTU systems. They are responsible for sending the final marks for the lab exams.

7) Sometimes toppers also fail.
Don't get disheartened by the failures. Many toppers of their schools struggle in the college. It doesn't prove a thing. Its you within what matters. Try hard and try continously. You are ultimately bound to taste successes.

8) More than 4 backs in a year means year-back.
I hope you know this!!!

9) Avoid Rat traps
What??? Rat traps???
Oh, then you have not experienced the so called "Bangalore Culture".
Common, these are just the words to introduce you to the dusty road of boozing and smoking to the extreme.
There are people who just come here to enjoy the luxuries of a metropolitan city. Just stay away from them.
Anything within the limit is good, don't do extreme!!!!

10) College life matters a lot in shaping your personality.
Improve your communication and interaction skills.
Take part in co-curricular activities.

Last words:
Give your reviews about your college and feedback about this site.
You can write some more points for the next batch and suggest any changes if needed....

Also, cet takes 12th marks also in account as well as there are so many categories.
So, I am unable to answer to your cet queries.

Management Quota Seats In Bangalore Colleges.

Management Quota Seats:

About 25% of seats in each of the private engineering college are reserved for management.
These seats are entirely meant for admissions to be taken by the college management irrespective of applicant's ranking in comedk or karnataka-cet.
It has been observed that college management provides these seats to the students for a large sum of money.
The amount of money differs from college to college and is entirely negotiable by the students or guardian.

When to contact?

These admissions are open as soon as entrance exams are over and continue till the commencement of classes.
Seats in good colleges are sold out even before the counselling starts, but the management doesn't sell few seats for which they take huge amount of money.
So, if you want these seats at low prices, approach the colleges as soon as you can.

Whom to contact?

Contact college administrators directly on the phone no. given on the websites but they normally don't quote the prices on the phone.
So, visit the college on your own before negotiating.

DON'T APPROACH ANY MIDDLEMEN as they charge you a lot without performing any actual job.

What is the current price?

The management normally quotes much higher price. It is better you visit the college and consult the students studying there.
They will give you the details about the average price of the last year.

As per my knowledge,
Top 6 colleges normally charge about 12-16 lakhs for CS and ECE, and 8-12 lakhs for other branches.
Top 7-14 Colleges charge about 6-10 lakhs for CS and ECE, and 4-8 lakhs for other branches.
It totally depends on your negotiation skills.

Rush before the rates soar high.

2nd round of comedk uget counselling

Location:Bangalore Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Counselling dates for 2nd round of comedk engineering admissions have been announced by COMEDK.
It starts from 25th of August and ends on 31st of August.

All of the colleges in Bangalore follow VTU academic calendar except the autonomous institutes which are few. List of autonomous colleges can be found by clicking here.

For the session 2012-13, VTU has announced commencement of classes from 16th of August.
This clearly means that those attending the counselling will have to miss a few days of the classes.

In my opinion, that can definitely be compromised for the sake of better colleges/branch which will be deciding factor of your future. In second round of counselling, large rank slide occurs. So, I suggest you to attend the 2nd round of counselling positively, unless you have already got into your dream college and branch.

Complete schedule of COMEDK 2nd round counselling can be found here.
